I love scallops, but getting them fresh here is difficult (they must still be alive when I get them), years ago my friends used to fish for them, alas they are gone now (my friends :() I usually just quick fried them in butter and ate with a Caesars salad.

I bought a bag of frozen ones. Is that a bad thing? I normally never eat other kinds of frozen fish but this was a spontaneous purchase and I'll have to see if it happens again. :(

Thaw them before quick frying, even if the instructions tell you they can be cooked from frozen.

I thawed them and fried them with butter and garlic. The jury is still out. They were just ok and I think that the butter and garlic was the best part. :)

Quick sear on each side and done?
You are right about the taste (not much) but I like the texture of them, with different flavours added.

Not sure if "quick enough" but they weren't rubbery. I thought they almost had a slightly sweet taste? They definitely are not salmon or trout.

Sweet is right, like a good prawn.

I like shrimp but they are best when dipped in that red, spicy sauce. I like the texture but I have never cooked them myself. I like REAL fish....salmon, trout, etc. :)

    Haddock, Scotlands favourite, or herring?

    Too bland for me. :(

Nope. Ever eaten lake trout, or rainbow trout or salmon? Now THAT is great tasting fish!
    ROMOS

Yes, all of them, but herring and haddock are special to me, must be a cultural thing. :)

Ok. If you ever get yourself over here, I'll even cook some of THAT, just for you! :)

    :))))))

I like Scallops. I've cooked them a couple of times, but I end up overcooking them to a point where they were rubbery so I gave up.  I order them from seafood restaurants when they are available on the menu.

Here are some recipes to look at if you want. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1LENN_enUS508US508&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=scallops%20and%20pasta%20recipes

I fried them but I have to do more investigating for a better recipe, before I try them again.

I like them with angel hair pasta, tomatoes, spinach in a white wine garlic butter sauce.

That sounds good. The taste of the scallops would be completely gone! Haha!

    Kinda sweet.

I don’t eat anything that swims, alas. Not even tuna. My ex told me though that if you get perfectly round ones in a restaurant, they are not scallops but are probably shark meat stamped out with a pipe……..I would guess just about any kind of fish would do……..

I love fish that is properly cooked....lake trout, rainbow trout, pickerel (walleye), salmon, tuna....all of it. Not sure yet about scallops but I do plan to try them again.

I'm not a fan of seafood but scallops do look tasty. Let me know,  Ducky if you like them!

I do like tuna salad but I always check to be sure no dolphins can be in the can, too! Also I have tried tuna steaks which seem good!

I'm a fish lover and I've now tried scallops. I think I need a better recipe but I will try them again.

There is this fabulous little Spanish Tapas restaurant that I patronize somewhat regularly, that serves up the most divine scallops I have ever tasted. Our party of four usually ends up ordering up to 20 Tapas.  I'd say, on average, 12 are all different and the remaining 8 are all scallops. And I'm not even a huge fan of fish.

It is a rather odd looking swimmer, though.

I think I know the place about which you speak. Will they give me their recipe? :)

Scallops don't seem to have a lot of flavor, but I like them pan seared with a little butter and lemon.

Mostly, I like them when someone else cooks them for me!

Maybe that's exactly what I need....someone to cook them for me. They were just okay so I'm going to find another recipe and try them again. I used butter and garlic but maybe some lemon would help.

Hard to believe butter and garlic need anything extra!

I'll experiment until I find them to be either "delicious" or "not for me". :)

Digger has probably found some really good ones.

I'm guessing that he gets them served to him. Bet he doesn't cook or have a clue about the recipe. Are you listening Digger?
