    big waves is destroying the city or big waves are destroying the city why are these 2 terms acceptable in plural

      To the best of my limited knowledge "big waves is" is NOT acceptable. I believe if the subject is singular ie; "wave" you use is, if the subject is plural ie: waves you use are.
