I'm not sure if I agree they are the best for sound, but they can't be beat for the  reason of nostalgia.

I think they sound richer than modern day devices. The occasional skip or scratch just reminds you of what you are listening to. I still have (and play) the original first album I ever bought. (WHO’S NEXT by The Who)………..
