    In part, the article states:

    "

the report said homosexuals “need to be welcomed and accompanied with patience and delicacy” and that “[homosexuals] have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community.”

Not only does the document admit the existence of committed and loving gay and lesbian partnerships—something the church has been hesitant to do thus far—it also says that such partnerships might have redeeming qualities: “Without denying the moral problems connected to homosexual unions, it has to be noted that there are cases in which mutual aid to the point of sacrifice constitutes a precious support in the life of the partners,” the report reads.

Indeed, the report condemns gay partnerships as “imperfect” and emphasizes that “unions between people of the same sex cannot be considered on the same footing as matrimony between man and woman.”

PERSONALLY, I don't encourage homosexual relationships, but don't condemn or pass judgment on those relationships, either, and enjoy friendships with both "societies" without difficulty. The Catholic church is between a rock and a hard place.  It has become increasingly difficult for many to remain steadfast to their beliefs if they go against darned near anybody who wants to shout "prejudiced! discrimination".

It may be difficult but deeply rooted beliefs don't necessarily stand the test of time eternally.

Yes! The times they are a changin'.

They are indeed. Although it is far from a ringing endorsement of homosexual relationships, within the Roman Catholic world, this is a seismic shift in attitude.
Not so long ago, slavery was considered acceptable. Even defended by the major religions.

So....everything they preach about birth control etc is not exactly carved in stone?

It's interesting to learn a little about the Catholic faith through the years. (Humanities 10 and 11) Their past has its share of problems, just like most other religious sectors.

Yup ! The current pope is loosening up on things. ......maybe b/c they want former Catholics to come back into the fold.

if the bible says it is okay,,then so be it,,if the book says it is not okay,,then so be it also..>>>>>><<<<<<<<

A few facts: The lowest birthrates in Europe are in Catholic italy and Catholic Spain, so the inhabitants of these countries are clearly practising birth control. The Church is seriously short of priests and this problem could be partly solved by allowing priests to marry. There are many gay priests though probably no as many as in the Angican church.

    Next step- women priests?

I don't see any problem with the issue. Love is not to be subject to legislation.

Don't you think that Papish love has been a tad misguided?

The simplicity of this edict is simple and dismissive of excessive litigation that would otherwise drag on for centuries without such a simple little rule. If two persons love each other then fault-finders are simply envious of their freedom or wanton of what they see and thus jealous.

The term "papish" is not in my dictionary.

    Must be a Vatican thing.
You are using the wrong dictionary.

    Les Misérables
It is to attack the sceptre in the name of the throne, and the mitre in the name of the attar; it is to ill-treat the thing which one is dragging, it is to kick over the traces; it is to cavil at the fagot on the score of the amount of cooking received by heretics; it is to reproach the idol with its small amount of idolatry; it is to insult through excess of respect; it is to discover that the Pope is not sufficiently papish, that the King is not sufficiently royal, and that the night has too much light; it is to be discontented with alabaster, with snow, with the swan and the lily in the name of whiteness; it is to be a partisan of things to the point of becoming their enemy; it is to be so strongly for, as to be against.
    Bob/PKB

"Love" IS subject to legislation. While "May-December" relationships may get a raised eyebrow, a "January-June" relationship will put someone behind bars.
