For notifications click on the red oval top left, to check your karma put the cursor on your avatar top right.

It's not difficult, but it's certainly not an improvement! :(
Mine is a red circle, too, but I would have sworn it was an oval a couple of days ago. This could be another big improvement!!! WOW, someone is really working hard to make this site terrific!!!
