What does that heavy , bold line represent ? Ok, just what is the Siegried Line ?
    Tommyh

We will hang out the washing on the seigfried line was a WWII song. The Siegfreid line was a line of defences set up by the Nazis to protect Germany from invasion.OR something like that) :)

Why is your washing more organized than mine?

I seldom use the dryer, even in winter.  This photo is accurate:
clothes hanging : Clothes on hang rail, isolated on white background Stock PhotoPut it outside when the weather is warm enough. Drys in no time.

Winter? Hah! Ours would freeze on the line, maybe be snow covered and then have to be put in the dryer.
    Mother's method...not mine. lol
    Bob/PKB

It takes a little longer in the wintertime, but I'm "thrifty", at least when it comes to using the clothes dryer.

Hey Bobette: Do you remember your musty washing machine question from days gone by?

Answer, clean on clean cycle or 10% bleach, add an extra rinse cycle .... here is the key .... always leave the door open.

I asked an actual, in the flesh expert the last time my washer was serviced. :)
    Bob/PKB

Thank you O Great Fish Girl. The door is always open and I always do an extra rinse. Followed your advice from the first time. Will run some bleach in a load too.

We don't.It all goes in the dryer.Gotta fix that clothes line one day.Save on some power.

Southend Pier. Gets a good airing there.

On my outside clothesline. If it's raining, on the line in the basement.

My words exactly. Because when you hang them outside, they smell sweet, and it's easier on the fabric than drying it to death.

In Australia, just like this.   """"

Is that a genuine "Hills Hoist"? It doesn't look like the one I used to swing on when I was a kid.LOL

Yeah Tommy I think every kid had a go at swinging on them.
    Tommyh

    That's the one.Exactly.
    FISH-O

We swung on one as well. Took the darned thing down. Oh, my poor mother. :)

Memories of being a kid in the country.  Mom used to wash (for 6 kids) we would help with an old wringer washer.  Sometimes, you would catch your finger, ouch!  Then hang on the line, sagging, so kids could reach to help.  We had long poles, that we cut with forked end to hold the line.  We would now say it is being green.  By the way, the washer was in the back yard, as the house was too small (former one-room school house).

Wow bustieone, you should write a book.
    Tommyh

By the sound of all that things weren't all that different to here in Australia.
    bustieone

I think you are correct, but this was in the late 60's, and by choice. We lived in the city, with all the conveniences, except our safety. Younger siblings were mugged going to corner store, we said screw this, and left!

Out the window, of course! ""See ya later!

On the Hills Hoist if in Australia.
