Do you neglect going to the doctor because you are afraid of what might be found?

I am wondering if I am alone in this fear feeling. I KNOW I should. I will probably make my appointment today but I've been meaning to do it for about six months.

itsmee, Go to the Dr. as soon as something comes up that looks or feels suspicious.....or just doesn't feel right. Ditto for your husband. My beloved husband got bladder cancer and we lost him .
    itsmee

Juliana: Well, you surely know to go. I'm sorry you lost your husband so dang early. I like you very much and I hope you feel better ... I'm at a total loss here. <3

You've got my support, Susan. Hope you'll be ok ♥

: ) I'm afraid of Diabetes. My doctor just takes a few drops of blood my finger. It should be from the arm. Yes? We've talked about this before, I think.
    mycatsmom

my Dr. says I have early diabetes. So, I quit eating ice cream, cookies, and candy ( except for dark chocolate) .Don't be afraid of diabetes,Susan. You can handle it,if you do have it. The best blood test for diabetes is the withdrawal from the vein in your arm, yes.

And thanks for your support and kind words.

I didn't go to a Dr. for months or a year after I had a streak of blood on my panties. And I was past menopause. I thought I'll just let it go and see what happens. Well, what happened is that one day I had a hemorrhage down there, and it turned out to be uterine cancer. I had to have surgery, radiation, and chemo. But thank God I've survived for 7 years. The incision got infected, with MRSA , thanks to the hospital staff not practicing sterile prodedures. Then I was in the hosp every month in '07 and part of '08 with boils of MRSA caused by chemo lowering my immunity to almost zero !

It hurt !  It brought about a hernia alongside the incision. I had to have surgery for that.!  A year or two later, the hernia came back and it brought  with it, his brothers and sisters.........more hernias on the other side of the incision. Had to have surgery for that ! My lower abdomen hurt for a long time after that ! It is still tender.!

I have one of those incisional hernias too Julie. They are a painful nuisance aren't they?

My grand daughter has come down with Staph on her shin. Somehow in the busyness of living her Staph got over looked until it could not be overlooked. She will be having an X-ray on her shin in a couple of days because the doctor is worried that the Staph got down to the bone. It's not MRSA yet. : ( ( ( (
What a story of your will to live. Wonderful. Hoo Ray. I knew there was a strength in you that we didn't quite see. Again, I'm at a loss for words.
You make me feel kinda small because of my puny fear of the doctor. Really. I mean that. Yes....I'm afraid. Thank you for sharing your story of courage. It will get us either scampering to the doctor ... or running fast the other way.

Do it now S, or I'll send you over "someone" who will nag you until you do.

I'm not "afraid" to go but I always think that I may be wasting his time, I am tending to think otherwise now.

    itsmee

OK ... I am signing off and heading for my phone RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE. I won't read or write a single word. You gonna send me CB? LOL. The least of my worries is that I'll be wasting my doctor's time. I WANT TO WASTE HER TIME.

    I don't waaaaaaana!

    Tommyh

You & my wife would be a great tag team Bumpkin.Maggie wants to ship me off to the Dr everytime I get a headache.

    LOL....Good for her! (*~*)
    mycatsmom

because she loves you. That's why married men live longer than single men.
    Tommyh

    Nag,nag,nag.
    itsmee

Tommy: I am nag, nag, nag with my husband. It's cuz of love. He gets annoyed but there's that love issue on his side too. If necessary, I will join up with CB and Maggie and we'll get you guys to the doctor by force if necessary. We'll nag single people too so mcm, you better watch out.
    : ) ...
    Maggie is the cutest name!

    Tommyh

LOL.We like Susan for a name too Itsmee. That's why we named our oldest daughter Susan.:)
    mycatsmom

My friend, Ron, named his cat Maggie :-)
    Tommyh

Well that's another coincidence Julie.I've never had a cat called Ron.:)

No I'm not afraid.I just don't have faith in any doctor.Hard to find a good one.

    itsmee

I have two good ones. One just writes scripts for Xanax. I can't understand his dialect and he can't understand mine. Great for a psychiatrist. huh. I mean it. I don't wanna talk.
The other one gives me pills for pain. We have fun talking but there's no health care involved. I don't want any.
I do have the doctor who takes blood and sends you for mamogramd. That's who I'll be seeing in a few days.

If you are concerned about something see a doctor itsmee, it doesn't matter if they find nothing wrong, it's their job. And you will feel much better knowing that.

    itsmee

Yes. Yes. Yes. It's money. It's time. It's shots. It ... oh ... stuff. You know. I just hate it. So far I've been skating along in my life but someday something will snap ... like my husband's ankle ... and I'll ... oh you know. sunnyB, you're great. Don't think I'm not listening.

I’m not afraid of doctors but my sister is I’m afraid. She’s losing weight like crazy, has a glance problem, and sleeps too much. She won’t listen to me, I’ll keep reading what others post and maybe get a good idea………...

    itsmee

That's what I do ... I read answers here and on the net and then make my decisions.
Keep nagging your sister. Is she your little sister or your BIG sistera?
Go to the doctor, Julie's sister! You gotta do it. So do I. So does my husband. (His, I believed, is age) I read him ROMOS' comment and he almost laughed through his pain. and even Julie has to go. You tell her, sister!
    jhharlan

Her name is Jenny and she told me she’d go tomorrow and I said that’s what she said yesterday…. She’s cheap and won’t go to the neighborhood ER because they’ll EMS her to the hospital $$$$$$$…..
    itsmee

If the neighborhood ER doesn't have the skill to handle Jenny's case, of course they will send her to the hospital. I believe you are doing your sister a good service by your constant nagging. What else is there? I don't like to pay for health care. It's scary to have health taken care of. I'm just rambling.
I'll keep reading right along with you to see if someone came up with something. X

I hate going to doctors! In fact if I didn't need to refill scrips, I would not go until pain or very disgusting illness made me go! I do believe in mammograms and blood tests for treatable things(blood pressure, thyroid things,  )  It seems the docs want to send you to some one else at the drop of a hat! (My arm hurts!! Oh you should see this bone specialist)   ( My tummy hurts! See  this gastro specialist)  I guess thats why I wait until the last minute!!

I agree 100%. I only go to keep an eye on "numbers". I wish I could test things at home, then I would never go.
    tabber

    clu, A A A A MAN!
    mycatsmom

ducky, you CAN test you numbers at home.....your glucose, your BP,your temp, your 0 2 intake level.
    Ducky

Well mcm, I've never really thought about checking my temperature for any reason and I have a BP monitor at home. If cholesterol is high (mine was), it can be corrected by diet (I did it) so I could be very close to never seeing a doctor, except in the case of pains, lumps or blood.
    itsmee

I'm really afraid of mammograms. I haven't had one for ... a long time. Oh well.
I got into specialists 10 years ago when i had a problem with pain in my neck. I went to every teaching hospital in California. Terrible. I finally met up with a doctor who agreed with me that I couldn't control my own pain. The teaching hospitals are set up with physical therapy, psychology and many other modalities. They've got to get people coming in to keep them in business. This conversation is getting really real ...

itsmee...I do go for mammograms. I have never found them to be more than a minor "pinch" for less than a minute and not at all what I hear some women describe. My only problem with them, is that like so many "medical tests", their reliability is debated.

No,My G.P`s Brilliant...I`d always rather know...Besides our family keep him in work!;-0...If it`s not one of us there it`s another!...I think we`re at the stage where if we miss a day...he has a panic attack and has to come round to see what`s up!..I see him more than his wife does!!..Cool guy!..IF he moved..we`d have to too!!;-0

    itsmee

Ohhh ...I love your commentary about your doctor. Yes!
By the way, I loved that first photograph you posted. Then you took it down and put up another. As you know, my personal preference was the first one. I'm not the boss. I just play her on TV.
How old and how many are your kids. You've probably said. I miss stuff.
I have a comment for mothers. Get your kids to wash their hands. Mine hurt from possible over washing. My grand daughter has Staph. It is just horrible. It's like the flesh eating bacteria, MRSA. Anyway wash wash wash. My daughter has a closet full of antibacterial things.

I went to the Dr a few years ago & told him I thought I was getting Alziemer's.He told me to go home & forget about it.

    mycatsmom

Hahaha. I thought he was going to tell you it's your drinking

    CAUTION: Comedian onboard.

i go to my kaiser doctor.  then i go to my chiropractor.  doctors were trained to medicate cut sedate.  chiropractors encourage healing and hopefully teach you how to be healthy.  i'm scared to death every time i go to kaiser and dentist for that matter. i know stories. one is i use to work at stanford and i asked a nurse what docs do when they make a mistake. she said bury them.

    mycatsmom

LOL.Tabber, I've heard that joke before, but it's always funny. Yes, chiropractors do help. They helped me a lot in the 90s with bad back pain.

    What is a Kaiser doctor?
    tabber

Kaiser is the name of a large hospital organization in California. It might be in other states also, not sure. It's a very good hospital, traditional cut and tape medical model.

I've heard a similar description of the medical profession. Test it, name it, then cut, burn, or poison! Thank heaven I discovered Naturopathic Doctors. They look at the entire person and then guide YOU on a path to fix it, mainly with food. A much slower process than a bottle of pills but with better results in the end. But, don't get me started. :)
