Depends on where you live, of course.  In California, it's all "community property" and split down the middle unless one "buys out" the other.  You could start moving money into a personal account, get a storage unit your wife doesn't know about and start moving things to storage.  Get a safe deposit box to start hoarding jewels.  Maybe hire a hit man and, well, that's not a good idea....

NONE of that is a good idea.  A good idea is to meet with a lawyer and tell him/her what you want out of the marriage and hope you've made a wise choice in your representation and that you aren't being ridiculous in what you want.    Maybe think about it this way:  If your DAUGHTER were divorcing, what would you want for her?  You should want the same for her mother.

Get a good lawyer. My husband couldn't afford a good lawyer when he was married the the 1st time, so he lost everything in his divorce.

Your soon-to-be ex-wife might take you to the cleaners. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
