They can be washed in a washing machine. The trouble is, the polyester always bunches up. It's a process to get the polyester filling spread out again in the pillow. After the wash is done, shake the pillow out and move the polyester filling around as best as possible. You can dry the pillow in a drier on low heat. Remove the pillow every 20 minutes or so and shake it out spreading the polyester filling around again. Once dry, hopefully the filling will be spread out enough that you can fluff the pillow so there are no lumps.
