The wolverine /?w?lv?ri?n/Gulo gulo (Gulo is Latin for "glutton"), also referred to as glutton, carcajou, skunk bear, or quickhatch, is the largest land-dwelling species of the family Mustelidae (weasels). It is a stocky and muscular carnivore, more closely resembling a small bear than other mustelids. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself.

The wolverine can be found primarily in remote reaches of the Northern boreal forests and subarctic and alpine tundra of the Northern Hemisphere, with the greatest numbers in northern Canada, the U.S. state of Alaska, the Nordic countries of Europe, and throughout western Russia and Siberia. Their populations have experienced a steady decline since the 19th century in the face of trapping, range reduction and habitat fragmentation, such that they are essentially absent in the southern end of their European range. Large populations are thought to remain in North America and northern Asia. Wolverines are solitary animals.[1] In February 2013, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service proposed giving Endangered Species Act protections to the wolverine largely because climate change is whittling away its wintry habitat in the northern Rockies.[2]

Wolverine is a fictional character, a superhero that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Born James Howlett[1]and commonly known as Logan, Wolverine is a mutant who possesses animal-keen senses, enhanced physical capabilities, and a healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound, disease, or toxin at an accelerated rate. The healing factor also slows down his aging process, enabling him to live beyond a normal human lifespan. His powerful healing factor enabled him to survive having the near-indestructible metal alloy adamantium bonded to his skeleton. He is most often depicted as a member of the X-Men, Alpha Flight, or later the Avengers. Read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolverine_(comics)

Wolverines are also known for stashing 'meat' up in the snowpack to retrieve for later...somehow they know to freeze the meat so it won't go bad! I think Sasquatch do this as well....now who taught who is another matter...lol

Good to know if one ever gets lost in the winter and is starving. Look for a frozen meat stash in the snow banks.

Yes, this is the " Wolverine State "  - - - Michigan. It is also home to the University of Michigan Wolverines  ( college football team )  The ironic thing is that nary a wolverine has ever been seen in Mich. Maybe they were at one time, and then trapped and hunted  out.   :-(
