Does one need a funeral home for burial?

Do cemeteries bury people without the service of a funeral home?

Since this is a world wide forum, you could get a variety of different answers. I suggest that you contact your local cemetery and ask them.

Thank you, you are of course right. I didn't think about this, however, it would be interesting to learn how other countries handle the situation.

And truthfully frivo, it's not something that I've ever thought about. I've just assumed that you call the funeral home and they take care of everything. (I'm Canadian BTW.)

Apparently one does not have to use a funeral home in the UK. Read here > http://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=4588

I'm still looking for USA information.

    Update:

No for the USA too. One can be buried without using a funeral home and without embalming if the body is buried right away. I did not know that. BUT they must be buried in "green cemeteries". http://voices.yahoo.com/going-green-natural-burial-no-funeral-home-2132665.html
