Okay, first of all, iTunes is an absolutely essential part of your iPod. Anything you do to your music in iTunes, will reflect on your iPod. Think of iTunes as the iPod organizer. You cannot work your iPod without it. So, you can download it from the Apple website. ( http://www.apple.com/itunes ) Secon of all, there are various ways to get music to your iPod. 1) You can use CDs that you own - Just open iTunes and insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive. iTunes will look up the astist name, the album name AND the song names on original, store-bought CDs. For pre-ripped CDs, you'll have to write the Artist, Album Name and Song names manually by right-clicking on the song and going to "Get Info". Once you insert a CD, iTunes will rip it automatically onto the "Library" 2) You can buy songs off of the iTunes store. - You can use a credit card, gift card or a PayPal account and buy almost any song that comes to mind. The songs run for $0.99 each and albums don't usually go higher than $9.99 3) You can download from the internet - If you have Limewire or are a member of any other website that you can get music from, simply download as you normally would. Then, open iTunes and go to "File > Add to Library" and a window with your files should pop up. Simply select the song you just downloaded and click "OK". The song will be added to your "Library." [NOTE: The "Library" is the collection of all the songs you have - you can browse through it and select, delete, play or edit any song you have.] Now, the iPod come with the "Auto-Sync" feature on. This means that as soon as you connect the iPod to your computer, your iTunes Library gets copied to your iPod. If you have a friend that has a few songs that you want, you cannot connect your iPod to his/her computer to get them. Why? The "Auto-Sync" feature will kick in and will erase everything in your iPod and will replace it with whatever your friends have on their iTunes. This "Auto-Sync" feature can be turned off so you can connect to ANY computer and grab ONLY the songs that you want. To do this: (1) Connect the iPod into your computer. (2) Click on your iPod, once it shows up. (3) Click on "Manually Manage Music and Videos" A message will pop up telling you that you'll have to eject the iPod manually - click "yes" or "okay". This means that you'll have to hit the "Eject" button before removing yout iPod from the computer. That's it. Now, all you have to do is click-and-drag the songs that you want onto your iPod. The songs you don't want on your iPod don't get into your iPod. I find this to be the easiest way to filter songs you want and don't want in your iPod. I find this specifically helpful if I want to connect to another computer - I can move my iPod from computer to computer without worrying that my library will be deleted and replaced. Thirdly, you should charge your iPod for at least 10 - 12 hours before using it. The USB connector cable has two bottons on the side that you press BEFORE you pull the cable out.  Source > Yahoo
