My husband and I have had a heated discussion about this. I think we toss 5% out every week. He says 2%. What about you?

I`m ashamed to say we throw out an awful lot of food!..It`s hard to know who will be home..or whether we are staying at My Mum`s on different days.I try to buy fresh fruit and veg on a daily basis at the market..and the freezers are stocked to the limits...but I take no chances with food hygiene..it`s a case of "If in any doubt..throw it out"!

I got food poisoning from the shrimp cocktail I consumed from the San Francisco Wharf. It was a l--o--n--g way home. "Horrors!" to quote Sheldon Cooper again. : )
Very little gets tossed by me. I try to check what is in the fridge BEFORE I go shopping. I find that buying duplicates will lead to food being tossed. I also don't go by "Best Before" dates, as I know that that, is simply marketing and food rarely, if ever, would be unsafe to eat after that date.

I know you know stuff.
Everything goes to the chickens and the refrigerator is cleaned completely and sanitized inside and outside especially the door seals and accumulated dust on the motor heat exhaust and de-ice the freezer also. When it comes to cleanliness around food I rule.

I have a visual of springing OCD. I think you would have to be in my mind to understand.
I didn't know that about OCD, It's something like what I have - ADD. There are differences I'm sure but at this time I don't know what they are. For awhile my art was nothing but dots put in a certain sequence that would make the colors pop. I called my painting Lotsa Dotsa. The other name for it is Pointillism. Maybe this is why I like to talk to you! : )
P.S. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 50! I was only able to take Adderal for 2 1/2 years. I am glad I had that opportunity.
"QUESTIONABLE" cottage cheese? NOOOooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scottish don't let anything go to waste. Really? I should be that way.
I have a big hunk of what at one time was a good looking piece of meat in the fridge. It cost eight bucks. I could kick myself or the beef. When a steak looks brown it's bad. Huh? Oh ... it's going out out out. It's Bad bad bad. Damn.
When a steak goes brownish it's bad? I don't want to eat or serve killer cow.
I go through my fridge every few days and toss and toss and toss. Nothing over 4 days old (except for cottage chesse............)

We don't waste a lot of food, well I don't think we do. My wife is in charge of the refrigerator, I can't find anything in there, I am usually told it's in front of you eyes for goodness sake.

Since the kids have flown the nest, we do waste more, I do not know or want to the %. When I taught, I had a "pig bucket" in which all of the leftovers, and throw-away food would be transported to the pigs at my school. They loved me, it was a break from the boring grain pellets. I never got a lousy chop from the deal... I was glad to use my Yankee Frugality and make use of the food.

Anyway, you had some very lucky pigs.
