Your water heater may need a new themo couple,on which the pilot flame plays and produces a few volts,that inturn keeps the gas valve open when heat is called for,

I think mine has the same problem. Since I have no idea what a themo couple is, I'm thinking I might just call a repair man to take care of it. Hopefully that's the only problem and it will be a quick fix. http://www.approvedplumbing.com/services/water-heater-sales-installation/
