Is a paternity test 100% reliable.

I am involved in a paternity dispute, despite my initial skepticism I now feel there is a small chance I may be the father. As the mother has put the other person's name on the birth certificate, and the person has mental health issues would a paternity test give him any visitation rights? I have problems of my own and really have said too much already, (in various posts). Does religion play a part if that is specified in any way?
