I had light come on, to indicate fuel in main tank was in need of petrol I pressed the Pump Switch and it emptied the RESERVE tank rather 'quickly.' I later experienced that fuel was spilled on my car port floor ???? I did not re-fuel and there was no further leaking of fuel.
A new petrol tank was installed when I purchased the vehicle and I wonder 'IF' they did NOT re-wire the switch correctly, i.e. gauge for main tank may have been connected to the 'RESERVE tank ??? What is is NORMAL PROCEES of OPERATION of the RESERVE PUMP ?? Alex

This is not my understanding of how the reserve tank works. On all vehicles that I have owned with a reserve the fuel has been delivered to the engine directly from the reserve tank once it was switched over.If the fuel is pumped from the reservr to the main tank then the guage is showing you what you have in the main tank I would think. As for the fuel leak,I would check the fuel line (Pipe or hose))connecting the 2 tanks. It sounds a bit suss.Something is not connected properly. It could be a simple matter of tightening a worm drive clamp on the fuel line.Hope this helps.
