My husband just called me. He's not happy with the situation. Would YOU leave. I suggested ... "Just leave." His appointment is for a physical. Last time he was there it was about the same thing.

I've started this answer over 3 times because I'm so upset with the situation your husband is in. At 15 minutes, I remind the receptionist that my appointment was for 15 minutes ago. If there is a reason for me waiting longer, I need to know what it is. I ask when the doctor will be able to see me. If the answer is reasonable (and you're on your own with that), I'll wait. When that time comes and goes, and not one minute longer, I'm back at the receptionist's desk/counter politely demanding to know why I'm still waiting.
It's at this time, if I am not the very next person (and I tell them I don't want to wait another x number of minutes in the exam room) that I am prepared to leave. I arrived ON TIME for my appointment, respect of the doctor, his staff, and his other clients. I deserve the same consideration and respect. I tell them to cancel the appointment and make me one where the doctor will see me promptly at my appointment time, respectful of MY time. I'm careful to tell the person I'm not upset with HER/HIM, but the situation is unacceptable and unprofessional.

Often Doctors overbook...my guess is money money money money...took a pal to a physical where it was a pre-booked appointment but when they said it was a three hour wait...we fled.

BTW, I didn't know that. Google was my friend. lol
Whenever I've had a medical appointment, I have had to wait at least 1/2 hour. One doctor that I had many years ago, had office hours beginning at 8:30am. His waiting room was always full (standing room only) and sometimes, he arrived at 9:30am or even as late as 10:00am!!! Unless you were the first appointment, your whole morning was tied up....no apology either. With doctor shortages almost everywhere, a new appointment here, would probably be months away....they know it!!! :(

When I go to regular doctor usually it is in and out within an hour. However I have spent a couple hours in a specialist office waiting! Then I really feel I need to wait because you have to be referred to get there in the first place. Boring to me and I will start pacing after a bit.

A week before my appointment I tell the receptionist that if someone misses their appointment or cancels out to call me on five minuets notice as I will be in the area shopping or in the library. Yreka is a small town and going anywhere in town is quick. So a cell phone and the arrangement works well for me. Give it a try, I don’t like waiting, waiting, waiting anymore than you do. The office staff likes this a lot because I can fit in conveniently.

Here in US, we are spoiled if we have to wait more than a half hour. Our system is so efficient, usually. Compared to what it will be with O-care!

Well, my doctors give me their time. Answer any question I have, and know me as a person Not a patient, My pulmonary doctor really gives her time and not looking at the clock. So if she does this with me, I know she does this with her other patients. So no, I don't mind waiting beyond my fifth teen minutes. One time I had to wait over an hour. I was told she was really behind (a patient had problems) and they would stamp your parking ticket. You don't want to cancel because they (Cleveland Clinic doctors) have a full schedule. It may be a month or more for another appointment. But I do have to admit that nine times out of ten, I'm the one who is LATE!

Here in the UK if you are ill or need to see your doctor, you have to phone at 8am sharp. the line is always busy so you are in a line and have to wait for someone to answer the phone, and if you are lucky you will get an appointment the same day, if you are unlucky and all the appointments are taken by the time your call gets answered you can't make an appointment for the next day, you have to try your luck again the next morning. At our doctors when you do eventualy get an appointment, you go along on time and a very important or self appointed importamnt receptionist will tell you THER'E'S A LONG WAIT so you sit in the waiting room for about an hour and wait your turn. When the buzzer goes and it's your turn to see the doctor, you may be in there 2 or 3 mins and there again if you are lucky teh doctor may make the correct diagnosis. This is the British National health Service in 2013.
