      If you tell someone that you would like to "try out a relationship" with them, s/he will probably run away. Just be yourself, get to know the person, then ask for a date. Go very slowly and see if it will develop into a friendship FIRST. Relationships just naturally develop over time and can't be rushed.

        Ask the person to go to a movie, or game, or fair, or something, where you can be together and get to know each other.  Just asking to spend time with the person lets him/her know you are interested.
