        Most engines it would coincide with the numbers of cylinders,

        4 cyl= 4 plugs
        6 = 6 plugs..

        although there are exceptions.. My 8 cylinder car has 16 plugs, also internal combustion aircraft engines have two plugs per cylinder that are controlled by the pilot-- mag 1 + mag 2

          I had an old Nash mid 40's that had a straight 8 and she had 2 plugs per cylinder
