They did that in case you get lonely. You can call yourself on the telephone, instead of just sitting in your house, talking to yourself. That way, it makes you feel as though you have a "real" friend. :)

Number AND surname? That IS odd. I once had my name in bold at the top of the page and when you turned it back, it had my maiden name directly behind it. Maybe you've found a long, lost, and rich relative..............?

Stranger things have happened, but this is right up there. I'd ask the hospital if the patient gave the phone number or it had to be looked up...if the bloke gave your number, it's a head-scratcher; if the hospital called because of the surname, it's a no-brainer. :D
(I got a Facebook notification a couple of years ago from a woman who had the same first, middle, and last name as me. She had been contacted by a company in which I own some stock. She found me on Facebook and let me know what was going on. Of course, we are friends on Facebook!).

Did you see your name and number in the phone book? If you are being serious, have you called the phone company to report this?
