Get out the board games. Pop some corn and let's play....

I knew a family who had family night every Monday.  No TV, no video games, no computer, FAMILY TIME.  Often they played cards or a board game.
So, it's "family night".  What are ya gonna do?

I like Hearts, Spades, Cribbage, Pinochle. Dominoes, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit and Pictionary.

@digger...I like to pretend that the money is real and it's mine to keep. :)

Me too. I get really upset if I don't win.

Back in my 20's, six of us (3 couples) played Monopoly. One of the women got really p/o'd when the game didn't go her way. Her husband, ever the woose, started selling her his properties for pennies. The other husband retaliated, darn near giving his wife his properties. I guess I had the best man in the bunch, because he let me play my game.
We never played Monopoly with any of them again, and, to this day, it's not one of my favorites.

Bob...I had a similar experience playing cards one night years ago. One person called another "stupid" and the fight began. How silly. I've never played cards since.

Can you imagine how these folks behave when it's not " just a game ".

My sons' father didn't do much of anything with them. I taught them to hit a softball, bounce a ball, shoot a basket, throw a ball (and yes, they all throw like a girl). We DID enjoy a TV show together on Monday nights, a British show, "All Creatures Great and Small", based on the books by James Herriot. Looking back, I'm thankful for that, because there was nothing else. (and the show was great...I purchased the entire series)

Football you bet! British style... hockey up the ying yang and figure skating all paid for by myself... does that count? I worked really hard for an ordinary life.

It must count for something. If the memory brings you a smile.

Simple, I like cards. Any game.........

    Texas holdem?

I like reading a book together. Each reader reads a page or so to a good “pass the book” place. Really big books like The Urantia Book and  A Course In Miracles can take a full year or more to wade through. Study groups of maybe 10 readers, stopping to talk about the subject occasionally, or to take a break is common. I have been in many book reader groups like this and have attend several reader groups a week on different evenings. There are many reader groups on different subjects. One group was into  Steven King. I liked the religious reader groups  studying books on every religion on the planet. The advantage of reader groups is the the broad collective understanding of other people with you…. understanding a possably deep subject that is too deep to shoehorn into your own brain in one fell swoop.

I've never heard of a reader group.

It sounds like an interesting evening, but maybe a little difficult for young children....

Children will listen-in and participate, when they learn to read out loud. Reading plays and scripts for movies can be a wonderful experience that enriches your life experience in ways you would not think possible otherwise. I’ve found this to be so much more entertaining than watching some TV-repeat.
