One of your favorite akaQA friends is coming for a visit!!!!

On a whirlwind tour of akaQA members' cities, your friend will have only 24 hours to spend with you.  What are you going to do!!!!
Note:  You don't have to say who your friend is...it's hard to choose, I know!

If one of you came to Fresno for a day, we'd probably go to Yosemite National Park or Sequoia National Park and enjoy the beauty unique to those two areas.  If you were up for a longer drive, we'd go to San Francisco, or take a ride through Mariposa County up Highway 49 (gold country).  If you wanted to hang around Fresno, I'd introduce you to my outrageous family and show you where I grew up, my school, stuff like that.  There might be a Grizzlies' game that day/evening, or a CSUFresno game, so if you liked sports, we could go to that.  You would be treated to a relatively authentic Armenian dinner, prepared by me.
Best of all, you get 2 for the price of 1, cuz itsmee lives in Fresno, too!!!!

Thank you, Fish. I feel like I’ve lived there all of my Texan life…!
    hector5559

    A big T/U Fishy,it sounds well good,
    bustieone

You got me with the micro breweries!
    hector5559

I like those pink and yellow shoe's ,outside that shop,
    FISH-O

    Dennis you are hilarious!
    Bob/PKB

How fun this day sounds, Fishlet. I know you will make it memorable. Do you think it's weird the kayaking sound best?
    FISH-O

The kayaking is really fun. The guide takes you on a very cool tour where you actually travel under buildings.

    Bob/PKB

It will be most fun to visit your studio and meet your special guys
    FISH-O

    That would be fun. :)
    Bob/PKB

    Be prepared....sometime before 2016
    FISH-O

    Very cool!

The best I could do given the time frame would be a Sydney Harbour boat Cruise. To get to the city from my place is about 3 quarts of an hour by  train. We would depart the train at Circular Quay where you can be entertained by a group of Aboriginals playing rather good music with their Didgeridoos. We could stop and have a coffee at one of the many cafes dotted along the Harbour. Then board our boat and go on a pleasant and relaxing scenic view of Sydney Harbour with a commentator describing points of interest millionaires row is one of them, you get to see the spectacular homes of the wealthy. The cruise offers a smorgasbord lunch of the finest seafood. Once back at Circular Quay I would suggest we go to Sydney's Kings Cross, this is an eye opener of a place, the night life here is sure to shock. We could slip into one of the night clubs and have a drink. There is plenty more to see and do. Maybe next time.

    Bob/PKB

That sounds like a perfect day, pythonlover. I enjoy riding the train, and the few day cruises I've been on have been wonderful fun. You've thought of everything!
    bustieone

I remember Kings Cross, it was a hoot... And are you at Darlings' Harbour, Python? How about the casino there, can we go there? And to the Blue Mts. for a nice tour and picnic?
    mycatsmom

and shrimp on the bar b. Then eat some crayfish and gator meat.
    itsmee

That would be a perfect day. I'd love the train, the Aboriginals with their Didgeridoos. (I am looking them up)
We're not much for nightclubs but I love the way you say we could slip into a night club. (I think it would be fun to be 'shocked' Oh, I'd so love millionaires row. I love your ideas for a great day.

Well let's see....I could show this someone the Gold Coast.Maybe take you sailing in the Southport Seaway,do some fishing.Lunch at Menniti's Seafood Resuraunt.Or... we could travel an equal distance in the Northern direction & take in all the scenic beaty of Queenslands Sunshine Coast.Maybe go to Steve Irwins Australia Zoo.It's fabulous! If shopping is your thing we could go shopping in Brisbanes Queen Street mall.Very good shopping. The entire street is closed to traffic & packed with shops of all varieties.

There is always something to do in South East Queensland & we have the best weather in the world to do it in.:)

    Bob/PKB

I'm packing, getting my passport, and looking into flights. Sounds like a wonderful day with a wonderful host.
    Tommyh

You would enjoy it I think. It's a very outdoorsy lifestyle.
    Bob/PKB

    Some day! Count on it!!
    bustieone

And go down to Sydney and take in the sights at Kings Cross?
    itsmee

I'd like to see the Gold Coast and the house you have there.
While we're there we'd introduce you to our son and daughter-in-law. (They love it more than Florida) They'll be in Australia for 2 1/2 years and maybe ... just maybe we really will go to Australia.)A 22-hour flight doesn't sound too good though. I think it would be $3,000 for one person each way ~ and there would be two of us.

I would take them to London for a day out, 1hour by train from here, then finish up at Southend on sea for Fish and Chips and mushy peas for supper.

    bustieone

Wrapped in newsprint? I am there too, if invited, Sunny. I love good fish and chips, in fact, we, in my family, rate them on a 1 to 10 scale...
    sunnyB

    You are most welcome bustieone
    mycatsmom

    I'm in . I would love to see London.....especially at Christmas .
I like shepherds pie and pot pie.
    sunnyB

Your more than welcome too mycatsmom, we could have shepperds pie for lunch, or pot pie.Not sure what you mean by Pot Pie ? though
    bustieone

"Pot Pie" has no herbage in it... It is a small pie individual serving, can be any meat with veggies and gravy under a pie crust.
    Bob/PKB

I love riding in a train, sunnyB, and have enjoyed a few days in London years ago and really loved the city, but if you have things to see and do where YOU are, I'd rather do that, for sure. Fish and Chips! YUM. Mushy peas? hmmmm
    sunnyB

You will be made welcome Bob, there is alot to see and visit, alot of history around this area.
    itsmee

I have ALWAYS wanted to go to London. Always. You're lucky to live nearby.
    mycatsmom

sunny B, Even in the Beatles song, they mentioned " a pot of pie " The song was " We're so sorry, Uncle Albert ....."
In fact, it was one of the British queens that thought up making fruit pie ....like apple pie....b/c prior to that, they only made meat type pies.
    sunnyB

mycatsmom, after speaking with my wife about the pot pie, I know what you mean now, she says he mum used to call it a pie with a hat on, it can be meat, or fruit, and it is cooked in a pot, or earthern pot and has a pie crust top. My wife does it sometimes, but my mum and mother in law used to cook it alot, delicious.
    itsmee

mcm: I always thought the Beatles sang "butter pie" I'm gonna have to listen to it today. : ) You're the music expert, m'lady.

Well if anyone came to RI, we would have to go to Providence and Newport.  The mansions of the Victorian time US elite are there as tourist visits.  And Prov. has a very historic walk on the east side, with homes dating to the 1600's.  Of course RISD museum, fabulous Italian restaurants everywhere!  You could not visit without having a "hot weiner, all the way" and a "coffee milk" or a "Del's frozen lemonade".  Also, as the Ocean State, a must do would be to visit our coast, with nice beaches, eatery's- for "RI chowda and clam cakes".  The bakeries are fantastic also, we have many!  The theme is that you would eat and tour, and maybe sail on a schooner in Newport harbor.

    ROMOS

Hot weiner sounds good to me!
    Bob/PKB

That sounds perfect. I've been in Newport twice, and twice visited a restaurant there that had the best clam chowder I've ever had. (1981, 1986....I'm overdue for a return visit)
What a fun trip. Thanks, bustieone
    ROMOS

    No hot weiner then P?
    Bob/PKB

ROY, There are at least 3 meals in my days! :D
    itsmee

I would like to see Victorian mansion ... the whole thing. I'd definitely want to visit YOUR beaches. Sounds like a good time.

If you go to the UK, don't miss the well known seaside resort of Skegness, with its (short) pier, its pebbly beach, its fish and chips and its 'bracing' weather especially at this time of year.

    ROMOS

Yoosed to go to Skegy when I was a yoof, great stuff!
    mycatsmom

what country is it in ?
    nomdeplume

    In Lincolnshire UK.
    mycatsmom

I thought the UK encompasses England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales.
    nomdeplume

Nearly correct mcm, the UK covers England Scotland Wales and NORTHERN Ireland. The countries you mention are the British Isles.
    hector5559

You cant beat Camber Sands Norm,so boring that even farther Stone wont go thier,,

I've been to all those places in my travels to the land of the fruits and the nuts, when i was about 30. But, i'd like to come and see your grand babies, Pk. And i'm fond of itsmee.

    Bob/PKB

Any time! But if one of us was coming to visit YOU, what would we do??
    itsmee

Juliana, I think I would break open my piggy bank and we'd take a nice long visit to San Francisco. We know some hotels that are not terribly expensive and most important, they are safe. See you then.
    itsmee

We could get our lovely rooms at the Hotel Juliana!

I must have slept through this one .... however ... I would take y'all Bigfoot seeking right here in the neighbourhood .... pack a beauty lunch for the beach and build a bonfire.... some more food and some s'mores then break out some guitars and do a little sing song campfire so the Biggies can watch from up the mountain and be entertained by us crazy humans .... LOL

photo taken by an ICU nurse in her back yard near Gurtz, Utah !! Note that the fence posts are 4 feet high ....
    Bob/PKB

That sure doesn't look like anything g BUT a Bigfoot.
Sounds like a very "personal"....no distractions from the company you're sharing. Nice

This will have to be about three days. If the rule is 24 hours, you pick your pleasure.

Oh, we'd go to San Francisco ~  Fisherman's Wharf, The Cannery, Ghiredelli Square, Coit Tower, De Young's Museum, The Golden Gate Bridge, Polk St is Hippy Street, Castro is Gay Street, Twin Peaks, Haight/Ashberry --All the hippies hang there.  San Francisco is unlimited.  If you are the type who enjoys night life I'll bet you could hit some wild and crazy bars, Fleishaker Zoo, Golden Gate Park.
I dont know the fancy dining places but if you wanted that we could find one. They are unlimited. (Husband and I usually just get a hamburger)  One of my favorite things about San Francisco is that the entertainment is FREE.  We used to go there a lot. But actually it's getting expensive NOW because of the price of gas and our gas gobbling car.

If you wanted a really quiet time to talk and walk by the ocean, we could go to Moro Bay and take a hike at Montana De Oro. We are going there for Christmas. Want to join us? From there we could take a short drive to Hearst Castle. (I've never been there and that must be some kind of sin)

We're not great travelers  but  tell where we would go if we came to your land. And now I'll read.

    bustieone

I pick San Fran. Sounds like fun!
    itsmee

Wanna go to the zoo? I haven't been for five years.
Wanna go to a night club. I haven't been since I was 21 and brave and foolish. (That might be our best choice. I'd drink 7-up and no one would be the wiser.)
    You pick.
OMG ... I LOVE SAN FRANCISCO. My heart is there. Glad to have you, bustione.
    Bob/PKB

There is a great Chinese restaurant my sister and I visited recently. SCOMA'S for seafood, but its pricey.
Hearst Castle is really beautiful and interesting, and there are different parts to tour. If you go south a little, you can visit Cayucos and Harmony (population 36).
Carmel and Monterey are great places to visit if you go coastal.
    itsmee

We almost moved into a condominium that is just about three miles south of Hearst Castle. We drove by and an old lady was standing out in front of her place. She invited us in, we talked and talked and she wanted us to live there. She wasn't crazy to my knowledge. She was just scared to be alone. We stayed with her until her son came to her rescue. The place was just like a condo we had just moved out of. Across the street is San Simeon Beach. Beautiful.

I've been to Cayucos and Harmony. Every month I went to poetry pow wows at Carmel Beach (see Tad Wojnicki) and I lived in on the border of Pacific Grove and Monterey.

And now ... now ... I live in Fresno. Hoo Ray? I'm carrying on because I have to go shopping - food shopping - not fun. Coffee first.
    bustieone

    Thanks for the invite, Its...

""Well Bob,we could start at Buderim Falls Bridge,,then head down to Underwater World at Mooloolaba, then head to the Spit for a swim in the ocean, topped of with a feed at the Mooloolaba Fish Market, next stop Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo,then head down towards the Gold Coast Movie World Rides, then finish with a Gallery Walk up at Tamborine Mountain..then home for a well earned rest,,whole trip about 300 klms in all..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..buderimfalls-bridge""""Crocodile feeding - Australia Zoo""
