There are many misunderstandings about what life is and what is there after your body dies. Many have sought to understand this to fill the void of their ignorance with some happy thought. We are all ignorant of death because death is experienced as an awakening to a greater reality that is remembered rather than experienced as a new experience. What you know of physical pain is temporal and limited in some small way. Life offers us many treasured experiences that can be gained in no other way. Children and child care is among the more treasured experiences. Life and eventual death are the experiences that bind our book in time. The pages of our book are filled with the events of our every day and I can assure you of this…nothing is ever lost in these records. Many have a long history of events that far exceeds the present years of their life. To remember past lives is to walk along the paths of mind with your Mystery Monitor in order to correct errors in mind that obscure your knowing who you are and what you are doing here. When mind is corrected, your memory of events become clear and all those gifts you gave yourself enlightens your every day.

The answer to your question is based in faith and/or the lack of it.
There are as many answers as there are religions. Reincarnation, Heaven, Hell, a bunch of virgins, etc.
I haven't died yet, so don't have firsthand experience of what happens, and what happens to me isn't necessarily what happens to everybody. I'd suggest you look into records of some who have been clinically dead and survived to tell what happened to them.
