washington. the so called father of our country...a slave owner. anyone proud of that? no!!!!!!!

It was the era. Can't fault history. Even biblical times had slaves. Women were treated no better than animals in Christ's days. Can we be proud of that? George treated his slaves as members of his own family and even gave some their own plots of land. He was fair and compassionate and was expected to own slaves, expected by the people of his own church even. To be what the people expected a leader to be and do helped further his political career. I can be proud of how he thought and what he did for our country.
