I live on the Scottish East coast, I've swam in the sea all my life, never caught anything bad yet but I try not to swallow the water, should work the same in pools, the chlorine should kill off any bacteria that is in the pool, kids with diapers on shouldn't be in the pool, as for dogs, most of them love to swim and the chlorine should take care of any dangers.

I don't like pools. I think chlorine in the water would be harmful to dogs. Dirty diapers and e-coli Yuck! High and dry for me!!

There are special diapers for swimming, so that wouldn't bother me. As long as the dog leaves me alone, I don't care. One of my sister's dogs used to chase people in the pool. One couldn't care less you're there. My son's dog gently removes the pool sweep before he gets into the pool. Likes to swim alone.

If you want to swim, swim.  Take a shower afterwards.  as far as lakes go, fish pee in that, too.
