Recognize the relationship between tons and Btu. In the United States, a ton of refrigeration is equivalent to 12,000 Btu per hour.
2
Setup an equation using the information acquired in Step One. Every ton (T) is equal to 12,000 Btu (B):
B = 12,000 * T
3
Plug in a value and solve the equation. Give 5.5 tons of refrigeration, for instance, the equation would be:
B = 12,000 x 5.5
B = 66,000 Btu
