My son traveled alone at 9 years old. his mother in Ohio, me in CA. Obviously they require special handling and extra expense. You take them to the airport, they have assigned an attendant on the plane, she/he will stay with them and see to their needs. Could just be a flight attendant on that flight that has the responsibility. When the plane lands, they stay with that attendant, they then hand off the cild to you with proof of guardianship.. My son loved flying alone! he made many trips. I worried at first but after a few round trips it was nothing.
