I have a 89 nissan pulsar. Took it to get smogged and it failed ignition timing is at one degree, specification is 7 degrees. everything else passed and is running great. if I change the ignition timing to th specified 7 degrees it could possibly fail the emissions test. any advice???

Seems to me, since you know it's off recommended specs but it runs great, you must have put it to 1 degree. This means you know that the truck does not run well at 7 degrees. There's a problem if it runs bad at 7 degrees. Fix the problem and get it back to 7 degrees and you should have no trouble with the emissions test.
