I'm not religious but I do feel he did the right thing, he knows he's getting on a bit and feels that he can't handle the pressures of the job, the new Pope is going to have one hell of a job, I don't envy him.

I am also not that religious. Hey did you see the pic of the lightening bolt hitting the Vatican? Maybe God has something to say about it?
Yes indeed , At least he knew when to throw in the towel unlike his predasesors ,i guess we all know he's the first pope to resign in almost 600 years , time for some fresh new blood as well as ideas..!!

New ideas are not well received by Vatican Inc. Remember what happend to John Paul 1? He wanted to clean up the rot in the Vatican and was rewarded by being poisoned by those who wished the stones not to be overturned.
Truth is I'm not even catholic nor do i agree with their idioligies, they have to many non biblical theories including the position of "pontiff' as well..
daren1 I agree - this was a very responsible thing to do. He has such a gentle voice and kind face.
