what causes the chevy express van to run rough when the service engine soon light comes on?

The Van is wired to tell you when it requires maintenance so check ALL your fluid levels and check the block for oil or other engine fluid leaks spattered, sprayed or leaking. It could also be a dirty fuel problem esp. if it runs rough in the bottom 1/4 of the tank versus running full. To be sure, check out your owners manual and maybe take it to a mechanic buddy for diagnosis.
