As long as it's not suffered too much freezer burn and has been packaged properly for freezing and has been kept at 0 degrees, I would use it. Making soup with it is about the only way to mask the taste. If it tastes that odd then it is probably freezer burnt or was not kept frozen enough. When in doubt, throw it out.
