Eventually town centres may be returned to residential use. This will be no bad thing because as you say parking is a problem and most people choose to shop out of town for this reason.
Heard today that HMV, a British shop whiich sells CD's and DVD's is closing after 80+ years due mainly to people downloading and buying CD's on-line.

I think it's a bit of everything Dennis, being able to buy on line, being able to buy most things at the supermarket, and yes being able to park out of town, most towns in England have a lack of parking, and what they have got costs an arm and a leg to park. And also the recession doesn't help anyone.

yes it's been happening here in Brisbane for some years as well. The big shopping malls are taking the monopoly. The high street shops(AS you call them) are being turned into trendy resturaunt strips. Our high street shops are the old tram terminus strips, left over from the days when we had a tramcar network. It's been gone since 1969 & the shops have been slowly dwindling since then. There is a lot of discussion about how to utilise these old buildings. So many of them are standing vacant it seems a waste.
