I  used to have a Gibson front loading washer. It lasted 12 years until someone from my family overloaded it and broke off the drum. The best washer I have ever had. Not one problem in the 12 years I owned the washer.
I went to Lowes and bought a Whirpool. The  first day,after they delivered it, it stopped working. They replaced it with another washer(same Model) and it broke down in two weeks.{ Top loading washer). Now I have a Maytag Centennial and have not had a problem since. I was told by the superviser in Lowes, not to buy GE,., because there were too many complaints and returns.
I Maytag Centennial is only 1 yr. old.

My girl is down at the river as we speak, I hope she manages back up the hill with that big load, plus she's bringing the drinking water.

I have a front loader.  I am very happy.  It is a Kenmore.  I have had it for three years.

Oh, and it came with a five year warranty... when something was wrong (minor) the repair man showed me how to fix it (super simple)... My son's sock was stuck in the pipe part where water leaves the machine... he's three... small feet.
