      The Hijri calendar is the Islamic dating system deriving its name from the Hijra, the Arabic word for migration, refering to the migration of the prophet Muhammad(SWT) from Mecca to Yathrib(Medina) in the Arabian peninnsula in 622 A.D. thus marking the first year in the Islamic calendar.
