Service error 5100 is a carriage home position error.
Turn off and unplug the printer from the power supply.
Remove any paper.
Buy a can of compressed air from an electronics shop or computer store. Use the compressed air (Not a vacuum!!!) to blast out any dust bunnies, paper particles and debris. (Don't do this with the cartridges removed as you're likely to fill the printhead with air!!)
Use isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab (Qtip) to clean the plastic strip that runs the length of the guide rail (the metal rail that the cartridge carriage moves along), it may be contaminated with ink and debris.
Remove and reinsert the ink cartridges inside the cartridge carriage to ensure that they're connecting properly.
With the power off, carefully slide the print head (carriage) to the center of the guide rail. You should not have to force it! (There will be some light resistance but it should move quite easily by gently pushing on it with your finger.)
Close all the access doors, plug it back in, connect your USB cable and turn on the power.
As it runs through the initialization, the printer should sense that the carriage is out of position and automatically move it back to where it should be.
Good Luck.
