Are you looking for advice? I don't think this question is appropriate as a general discussion. It is however acceptable is you are looking for a way to explain what happened to a small child.

Not really looking for advice; my son is not old enough for school. Just wondering how it's being handled. Reassuring them that school is a safe place. Instruct them what to do if confronted with such a situation, etc. Unfortunately, as well as instructing them "don't talk to strangers", this should be addressed as well. Regrettably, a "sign of the times." All this being handled very gingerly, so as not to freak them out. Adam Lanza forced his way into the school. I'm afraid, there will be repeat incidents.
In the schools, children are instructed as to what to do in an emergency. This school went with "lock down". All the Administrators, other employees, teachers and students within the school practiced "lock down" regularly. I agree, there will be repeat incidents as the next nut job tries to out do the last. We need to address the mentally ill who are mixed into society and not monitored. We just trust that they will take their meds and trust the the doctors are aware that the meds are working and not causing adverse reactions. I personally do not trust that this is happening but we are suppose to just trust.
