Immerse yourself. Read all the signs on the sides of the roads. Get a few menus from different places. Picture/Word books, like we think only are appropriate for children.
Get enrolled in an ESL (English as a second language) class and GO.
When you need help, ASK. Don't worry about how you sound. If you don't speak, who can help you with pronouncing words.
In other words, "just do it" and know you will be helped and appreciated for your effort.
