Any of you guys or gals live in Canada?

it you are not sure, but you are in a Home Depot store and the person offering you assistance does not work there, you may live in Canada.

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Canada.   LOL

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than twice, you may live in Canada.

If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C' In the same day and back again, you may live in Canada.

If you have more miles on your snow-blower than your car, you may live in Canada.

The conversations in Home Depot usually are accompanied with cups of Tim Horton's coffee.

I worked at Home Depot for 6 months. The average employee walks 5 miles per day they say, and I can believe it.
    doolittle

I believe that Ducky- they are huge stores. We walked about 10 miles in 3 days of work at the hospital
    FISH-O

I believe it as well... I worked retail for many many moons. I burned through shoes.

It was a brand new store and the instructions were, "Don't point them to the product. Take them to it"! Since then, they have digressed.
    FISH-O

Ummm I'm pretty darn sure Quebec is part of Canada- Oh Digger where are you????
    digger

In spite of Quebec province being currently led by a Seperatist party, she remains Canadian...at least until the next referendum.

I have been in Canada numerous times and found the people to be vary nice.

I can not say the same about Montreal, the "Fogs" are very rude to anyone who does not speak French. They give you a dirty look and wall away if you ask directions

It may be just a black thing

    doolittle

Jack it's not a Black thing it's a "we speak English in your country, speak French in ours"...same thing happens in parts of France)
    FISH-O

It's not like that in the entire province. Quebec City is quite different. I am not a fan of Montreal.
    doolittle

I have some pretty funny stories about attempting to speak French- especially when I was in paris...we all had a big laughs after, in perfect English, they told me what I had said. (The public schools didn't do too good of a job where I grew up) C'est La Vie!
    Jack Large

Gee that's odd, I heard a lot of other Canadians is Montreal speaking English.
I have never had a problem asking for directions in any other county where I did not speak the language. I know I will never go back there

English it the language of "Business" all round the word, even Pilots on French aircraft, do their "Business" in English

    doolittle

I didn't think it was that odd...of course it was 30 years ago. I kinda understood their point. We Yanks (back then at least) expected them to speak English when they visited the US why not the reverse? (and I am a white female)

Montreal has big city rudeness, race car speed driving on city streets, glares if you don't speak French (they have forgotten that they created our bi-lingual country which means they should also speak English) and an attitude of never being satisfied. I was only there once, 40 years ago, and have no desire to return. Of course, not EVERYONE in Montreal is like that and it's definitely not a black/white thing...it's the language thing.

doo.."we speak English in your country, speak French in ours". That's the problem. They are just one province and a part of the same country but are not satisfied with that. I think sometimes that they really believe they ARE a separate country.
    doolittle

Ducky- I can't deny that there isn't a vast difference in attitudes of the people in Quebec (Quebecians? sounds funny) and the rest of you canadians!!! However, there are some cities in the US that are filled with ultra rude people....but many cities that are pretty friendly, So it would be the pot calling the kettle black...actually, their are some states with a lot of rude people..
    FISH-O

I was in Quebec three years ago. I also know quite a few people from Montreal. Ducky has the city pegged.

Sure, there are rude people, wonderful people, smart and not so smart, sweethearts and jerks, everywhere in the world. I think that the saddest thing of all, is that our human natures, meeting just one person of a certain nationality, color, accent, etc., who doesn't treat us well, makes us assume negative things about that whole race, religion, country, etc. As happened to Jack, "It may be just a black thing". Not at all. I'm white.
    FISH-O

It's not a black thing because I am pasty ... the people I know from Montreal are barely nice to anyone. It's just the way they are.
    digger

Hey,hey, hey ! I'M a born and raised Montrealer and I'm so...so wonderful. And humble too!
You all don't know what you're talking about.;-)

@digger...Well there ya' go. You know when you need a sample for "Show and Tell"? He's arrived!

(Oh now digger, don't get all sensitive. You know I'm just having fun at your expense and you will retaliate, I'm sure.) LOL!!!!
    digger

Ducky, Your comment is too funny (and possibly too accurate) to counter. LOL.
Show and tell. Now, THAT'S a great line.

digger...No counter attack? What's wrong with you? I feel honored to have "topped" one of the Sarcasm Kings of akaQA! We'll catch up on some other thread sometime, you Montrealer! :)

    Jack- that's cute.

If you're more than a 3-minute walk from a Tim Horton's, you're not in Canada.

    FISH-O

    That is funny and true!

Funny story about Tim Hortons. Travelling in Ohio...new TH had just opened. Stopped for a coffee and said to the employee behind the counter, "Nice to see this Canadian store here". Blank stare. "Do you see many Canadians coming in here"? Blank stare. "I imagine you meet Canadians here, who are travelling through to Florida, no"? Response...wait for it..."Uh, well um no. We see quite a few....Russians". We're still laughing and scratching our heads over that one. lol
    FISH-O

    O.O
