    Yes, I left a banana in a bowl an got a family of fruit flies!  Luckily I'm a Doolittle and don't mind a few hundred flying friends & my cat likes to bat at them....my advice: eat it before the flies hatch!

    If there is a banana in the bowl, do not put apples in there too.  The apples give off ethylene and will cause the bananas to over-ripen prematurely!   Conversely, if you want something to ripen quicker, put it in a brown paper bag with an apple!!
