Sure, any excuse can be used to get out of an assault charge, as long as you can find a good lawyer.

You're probably guilty of assault  with special circumstances, that being under the influence of a controlled substance with known side effects of violent behavior. Cases like this are usually reviewed in drug courts that arraign alcohol and drug cases. Your caseworker work with you, the court and your doctors to reach a decision that may or may not involve you in the process depending on  whatever factors are involved. I suggest that you cooperate with the process fully and don’t attempt to lie about anything during this process.
