That could be due to a bug in the update or a corrupted file in the app, delete it from both your ipod and your computer, then redownload/buy...for free again and hopefully this will fix it.
I usually update my apps for my ipod touch about mid-week, Weds-Thurs I can let you know if this happens to me when I update it then, see what happens.
In the meantime doing what I said more often fixes apps than not....good luck.
