Five days ago I had a cardioversion, which was successful - heartbeat back to normal. I had a double heart bypass in April 2012 - also successful. I have had a persistent cough for five months, occasionally bringing up mucuos. I am now feeling very breathless with the slightest exertion. My pulse seems to be normal. Should I be worried, or will this pass?

Well think about. You take in oxygen. If that is blocked by mucous in the lungs, you are not getting enough oxygen. You feel tired and exhausted, and then not able to move much. Like ducky said, go to doctor. A lack of oxygen will starve the brain and then you will not be able to think correctly or make decisions.
