    What is the rationale for,i 've been dieting a lot lately?

    to lose weight as Colleen said but it is also used when someone doesn't want to eat what is being offered.  "Here have a piece of pickle bread"  "No thank you"  "Why won't you eat some" and instead of telling the person that you think pickle bread is gross you say "Because I have been dieting (or dieting a lot) recently"

    The rationale to dieting is to lose weight.
