Operation Valkyrie was an order for the Territorial Reserve Army of Germany to carry out in case of collapse of civil order in the German nation. Officers in the German Army changed the order so that it would allow them to take over Nazi Germany, disarm the SS, and assassinate Hitler (the "July 20 Plot" to assassinate Hitler).
The plot was carried out in 1944, but failed.
