Sorry, you're not able to play Wii games on the Wii U Gamepad.
When you enter "Wii Mode" on the Wii U, all non-Wii components (like the Wii U Gamepad, Wii U Pro controllers & all the Nintendo Network services) are disabled for the duration you're in "Wii Mode". So your Wii U will act EXACTLY like a Wii when you want to play Wii games like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
This restriction is just to keep thing compatible with the Wii software. However, Nintendo does make it possible to exit "Wii Mode" without doing a power cycle on the system.
