The people of the State of South Carolina, in Convention assembled, on the 2d day of April, A.D. 1852, declared that frequent violations of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Federal Government, and it's encroachment upon the reserved rights of the States, fully justified this State in their withdrawal from the Federal Union.

Thank you for your response regarding south Carolina. I do have a second part to my question, that is, did President Lincoln order troops to fire on citizens of South Carolina, killing an estimated 17,000? Something to do with Fort Sumter. Thanks for any help in your response. Paul
Sorry it took so long to reply. I had to head out to work. I'm just home now.
As for your question, I can not find anything that says he did. This is what I found about Fort Sumter:
April 12, 1861 - At 4:30 a.m. Confederates under Gen. Pierre Beauregard open fire with 50 cannons upon Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. The Civil War begins.
