“This Q&A site is moderated by its members, hopefully - including yourself! Moderation rights are gradually assigned to the site users based on the accumulated "karma" points. These points are added to the users account when others vote for his/her questions or answers. These points (very) roughly reflect the level of trust of the community”.
I feel it is high time this forum appointed a male moderator and to this end I would like you to say a simple “aye” or a “no”. How say you?

I say aye. Male members here are quite welcome to put their hand up if they want to be a moderator. The Administrators will then give an aye or a nay.To become a moderator is not just based on karma points alone, it is about being dedicated to the site on a daily basis and willing to put in the time.
Are there any male takers out there ?

That write up is outdated. That was the vision they first had when akaQA began. They soon learned that making just anyone a mod was not the way to go. Members use to have a lot more tools to use. They could delete their own questions and answers and could edit and amend another members questions and answers among other things. These tools were abused by many members so they were removed from the members and Moderators began. Moderators are selected because of their dedication to the forum, the fact that they are willing to answer most any question and take the time to make sure people follow the rules of the forum. They are helpful and willing to instruct people on how to use akaQA properly. They recognize that akaQA is a help site first and a social forum second. That akaQA is serious about helping people who need help and not comedy central when it comes to answering questions. People who are looked at as a potential moderator do not post questions that create drama or upset or to rouse rabbles. They recognize that akaQA is all inclusive and no one skin color, nationality, sexuality or religion takes precedence over all others here on this forum. They work with moderators rather than against them as they recognized the job it takes to be a mod and see the mods are human beings and not targets to vent ones forum frustrations on. They know that a moderator has a job and a task to do and that job and task is set down by the admin. They know that the moderators are under constant fire by those who disagree with how the admin want the forum run. A moderator must be a daily member and be willing to give more than an hour or two per day moderating. A lot of moderating goes on behind the scenes. There are e-mails and reports to type up daily. A moderator must be willing to use Skype and have a microphone to voice with. Yes, we mods meet and discuss things concerning the forum and we do discuss actions taken against members who do not follow forum rules and persistently break them. As Dar noted without being a mod herself but something she's seen and picked up on, moderators work as a team. We make very few decisions on our own. Moderating akaQA truly is a full time job and it requires thick skin and a lot of hours and effort and serious thinking and decision making. It's not a walk in the park. First and foremost, you have to be willing to make akaQA one of your top priorities in life. If you see this site as a joke or simply a place for you to come and relax and have no responsibilities in, then moderating is not something "you" (all inclusive you) should be considering.
Now, with that said, I have been considering opening a discussion room on Skype where members who have a true desire to see akaQA be the best help forum out there could meet once a week or so to discuss ideas on how to improve the forum and how to handle trouble makers as a whole and not just leave them to the moderators. The part about everyone on akaQA being a moderator is true, as longtime members, you should be the leaders to any new members who come along. You should help them to know the forum and what it is about. If you see someone getting out of hand or out of line or making racist, sexist comments or attacking minorities, instead of giving them a TU, you should give them a TD and admonish them for posting something that is not acceptable by akaQA standards People who are moderator material recognize those standards without being told what they are. Your actions on the forum, your dedication to the site and to answering questions of varied topics and willingness to pitch in and help the moderators to keep the forum on track of what it actually is ( a help site) and the way you interact with the community members all make a difference in whether the admin notice you or not. These are some of the things they consider when looking for a member who could be a moderator.
Lastly, this question should have been presented to the admin, not to the members. Members do not decide who becomes a moderator here and a question like this presented to the forum just causes unrest, upset and trouble for the moderators. Something you should think about if you ever want to be a moderator here. I doubt very many would last at being a mod if they knew the kind of work the position entails. Plus you have to get use to being viewed as the enemy, the mean one, the control freak or the target that people use to make themselves feel bigger and badder with when they "have the guts" to say crappy things to a moderator and verbally tear them down because they think others will be impressed by such an action. I've been attacked and verbally ripped apart for almost two years now on this forum. I've had a lot of filth posted about me here just because I enforce the rules set down by the admin. I take it and will continue to take it because I care about this forum and most all of the members and I take the abuse for them, for the forum and for the people looking for help and finding at least a few people here willing to help them find answers, I do it for those people. Something to consider if you want to be a mod. Can you take the abuse? Can you take being viewed as the enemy? Are you willing to put yourself in the line of fire to enforce rules set down by the admin? Can you take nasty messages posted about you because someone has a hair across their butt because you had to moderate them? Moderating is a serious job with a lot of responsibility and you do not get paid for it. How many men here want the job and are willing do all that I've listed? Step up and add your name to the list of potential moderators.

I realize the abuse you take by the 'disgruntled" posters
who want to return to the "good old days."
This site may is NOT the same as it was then because it is BETTER.
People are actually answering questions and keeping up with the daily
influx of the myriad questions that are posed. You can easily see who
takes this site seriously as a QUESTION forum and not a social arena.
You and Python and Ducky do a fantastic job keeping things decent and
flowing well. Big props, kudos and hugs to you all. :)
