I think for xbox you remove the update by clearing your cache? Then it should ask you to download and apply it again. This sometimes fixes some issues (at least on PS3)
If it doesn't try deleting the cache and then do not accept the patch and see if you can play. That way at least we could determine whether the patch has something to do with it.
