If you open your printer up so you can see the cartridge, you'll see a very thin possibly see through plastic bar just behind the cartridge holder. Sometimes this bar comes out of the slot behind the cartridge (its called an encoder strip) and it will just need slotting back in or it may just need a wipe over. If that doesn't work you will have to dismantle it and check that the ribbon cable that connects cartridge holder to the board is secure.
