      Braking on most surfaces slows a vehicle at 15 feet per second, per second of braking.


      At 55 MPH around 225 feet for example.

        One formula for calculating the speed in miles per hours of a vehicle from its skid marks is
        speed = 2 x √(L x 5), where L is thelength of the skid marks in feet.
